From the offices of Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez:
I’m proud to partner with County Supervisor Kathryn Barger's office, the LA Regional Food Bank, and All Nations Church to host a free food drive-thru giveaway on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 9 AM to 12 PM at All Nations Church. It is important that we come together as a community to address the needs of those most affected during this pandemic. Walk-ups are not allowed and there are no eligibility requirements. Traffic safety is of the utmost importance, so take the 210 freeway north to the Osborne exit, and then turn right and head east along Foothill Blvd, joining the line to enter the church property at 10000 Foothill Blvd. Line formation begins at 8:30 AM.
Thanks to our friends at SHPOA who posted this today in their Daily Fodder:
EMPTY YOUR FEEDERS AND WATERERS FOR A FEW WEEKS!
There is an outbreak of Salmonellosis in pine siskins (a type of small finch, brown with a little yellow) and goldfinches that California Department. Of Fish and Wildlife has been monitoring during the last couple of weeks. They document this infection periodically in these species when they get an irruption of pine siskins during winter and this seems to be one of those winters.
Salmonellosis is a bacterial infection spread through food and water contaminated with feces from an infected bird. Pine siskins and goldfinches are especially susceptible to this infection when visiting bird feeders. While this disease is most often reported in pine siskins in winter, other species may also develop infection when in close contact with infected pine siskins. Sick birds often act lethargic with ruffled or puffed up feathers and die relatively quickly once infected. These outbreaks always involve bird feeders, so it’s recommended that all sources of artificial food and water are removed for at least 3-4 weeks to hopefully end the current disease outbreak. However, infection may re-emerge in the spring as pine siskins migrate north, back to their breeding grounds.
