Comprehensive Plan To Address Illegal Fireworks

Posted on 05/14/2021

From The offices of Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez:

On March 17 of this year, the Councilwoman sponsored a motion in regards to addressing the issue of illegal fireworks usage more comprehensively in the City of Los Angeles.
You can read more about her motion here: https://cityclerk.lacity.org/lacityclerkconnect/index.cfm....
The City Council approved this motion on May 5.

Fireworks continue to be a significant nuisance in the City of Los Angeles, causing a wildfire threat to our communities, distressing people, and endangering pets, livestock and wildlife, as well as causing air pollution. In response to concerns raised in meetings with community members, the Councilwoman introduced this legislation calling for a comprehensive plan to address illegal fireworks in the City of LA.

Her motion directs City Departments to:
* Create a fireworks buyback program
*Create a reward program to encourage individuals to report major suppliers of illegal fireworks
*Enable the MyLA311 app as a platform to report illegal fireworks year round
*Expand the current seasonal online portal via the LAPD website
*Report with data on the number of dead and recovered animals during periods of increased fireworks usage.

This cultural shift will help our communities by preventing structural fires and wildfires, improving the quality of life for residents, and increasing animal safety.

REMINDER - Important Community Meeting Tuesday May 11th

Lake View Terrace Traffic Safety Improvements Community Meeting

From the office of LA City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez:
As part of my broader effort to create safer streets in the 7th Council District, my office has been working closely with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to review traffic conditions and to design traffic safety improvements along Foothill Boulevard between Osborne and Wentworth in Lake View Terrace, a stretch that has seen several recent fatalities and injuries. In February of last year, we held a community meeting where local community members provided their input on this project. I’m happy to share that the proposed plan for the redesign has been completed and is ready for community input, a valuable part of this project.
Please join my office and the LADOT in a virtual discussion of the proposed plan on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 6:00 PM. All road users are invited to participate.
To participate, you must register at https://us02web.zoom.us/.../reg.../WN_6iwDBzeyTF-j_ddunDechA

For any questions on this project, or on other traffic safety issues in the area, please contact my Sunland-Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287.

Walk Up Pop-up Vaccine Sites in Council District 7 This Week

Posted on 04/26/2021

From the office of Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, 7th District:

Per LA County Public Health: "Looking at the data on breakthrough infections after vaccination that the CDC released last week, the risk of infection in people who are fully vaccinated was 1 in 13,275 – much less common than 1 in 10 infected with COVID-19 who were not vaccinated. And the risk of death goes from 1 in 500 to 1 in a million."

We are happy to offer a mobile vaccine clinic that brings vaccinations right here into the district, easing access for those that may not have internet access to sign up online or transportation to get to far-away vaccine sites.
We are currently taking FIRST DOSE appointments for our mobile vaccination clinic, which will be in Sunland-Tujunga again this coming week. As of next Tuesday, anyone with an appointment at one of our pop-up vaccine sites in Council District 7 will receive a Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which only requires one dose. These pop-up locations are walk-up, not drive-thru, and will provide FREE vaccines by appointment, regardless of immigration status. Anyone over the age of 16 is now eligible to receive a vaccination. Please see the attached flyers for more information.

If you have any questions or would like to get scheduled right away, please contact our Sylmar District Office at (818) 756-8409, Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600, or Sunland-Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287 to make an appointment for your vaccine.
