Hello,

My parents were hard working folks but believed in giving back to others.  I remember local kids from an orphanage coming to see the horses at our ranch.  I have tried to follow in their footsteps and make a positive impact on my local community, my home of 25 years, Sunland, California.

My foray into politics started years ago when I had to fight the County and different agencies concerning my own home.  At that time, the Neighborhood Council was crucial in helping me.  It was then that I decided it was better to work from inside the government to make a difference rather than to fight against it.

Now, more than ever, it is necessary to get in and help get things done during these trying times. The Los Angeles City government is looking toward the Neighborhood Councils for ideas and feedback from our communities.  So, now we really need to use our voices and have our elected officials hear us.  Instead of complaining about how things work, we must get off our chairs and become part of the system and, hopefully, part of the solution.  I hope that you, the community, will become more involved in your Foothill Trails District Neighborhood Council.

Please, come be a part of your government! Don't sit on the sidelines.

We are here for you.

From the back of my horse.........

Attention Stakeholders!
By Cile Borman (previous President)

Over the years, many of you have received e-mail from me starting with this greeting. I’ve always considered it a rallying cry, a wake-up call and a warning alert to you concerning the important decisions, large and small that are being made about our communities. Our elected and appointed government representatives’ work long and hard to investigate and study the many requests from their constituents, developers, manufactures, lobbyist, the list goes on and on. Neighborhood Councils that were mandated by the voters of Los Angeles, give “us” the right in our democratic society to join in the decision-making processes that affect our lives. The scrutiny from “us” the “the people” lets our elected officials know that their decisions must make room to include input from the people they have pledged to serve. Neighborhood Councils provide us Stakeholders with the means to get our voices heard in Los Angeles City Government.

Now is the time for each and every one of us to “step to the plate,” and volunteer some of our time and energy to nurturing the Neighborhood Councils. Our Foothill Trails District Neighborhood Council (FTDNC) recently celebrated our five-year anniversary. The board members who have served FTDNC during this time have not always agreed on every issue, yet we have persevered and have grown stronger, more “savvy” and determined to be a part of the “government process.”

Our election for new board members will take place on April 5, 2008. Attention Stakeholders! Be sure to come out and make your vote count!

The names of the people in the above picture, from left to right are, BongHwan Kim, Interim General Manager, Department Of Neighborhood Councils (DONE), Mary Benson, Treasurer of FTDNC, Cile Borman, President FTDNC, Linda Lucks, President of the Board of Neighborhood Councils(BONC), Daniel Gatica, Commissioner (BONC), Leyla Campos, Senior Project Coordinator (DONE). This picture was taken Monday, March 17, 2008, when our NC was honored with a certificate to recognize our 5 year anniversary.
